We are very happy to announce that we have won the competition for the new SAC Chamanna da Boval in the Engadin Alps. Out of 69 projects, the jury led by Gion A. Caminada selected our Mauerläufer as the winner of this 2-Phased, open concours.
The new refuge stands on a natural plateau at 2,495 meters above sea level in the Engadin Alps, where the Morteratsch and Pers glaciers meet, framed by the over 3,000-meter-high peaks of the Bernina Range. Situated next to the original hut—built in 1918 as a timber structure and expanded in the 1970s—the new wooden building marks the third evolution of the site, continuing the SAC hut tradition while adapting to changing needs and requirements.
By emphasizing on the maximum re-use of material components from the existing hut, we minimize both logistics and carbon footprint, while a robust energy concept ensures the building’s autarky.
